How to set north offset

Use this guide when the site model orientation does not already match real north.

TODO screenshot: show the project Properties panel with North offset visible, with the compass in the viewport and the corrected orientation highlighted.

Set north after the site is imported

  1. Import the boundary first.
  2. Import enough context to recognize the site orientation.
  3. Open Properties with nothing selected.

Adjust north offset

  1. Find North offset in the project properties.
  2. Enter the clockwise rotation needed to align project north with the real site.
  3. Watch the compass in the bottom-right while you adjust the value.
  4. Keep adjusting until the compass matches the orientation you need.

Check it before you continue

  • Turn on a daylighting mode in Themes.
  • Confirm the sun-facing and shaded sides look plausible.
  • If they do not, correct North offset before you evaluate reports.

Use one north setting per comparison

When you compare design options for the same site, keep the same North offset for every run.

For the compass and viewport context, use Themes, compass, and viewport.
