How to generate massing

Use this guide when you want a fresh UrbanGrid massing result.

TODO screenshot: show the Zone stage with Generative Algorithm Settings open, with the run controls visible and the current setup highlighted.

Set the scene before you run

  1. Import the boundary.
  2. Import the surroundings.
  3. Set Country, North offset, and daylighting inputs if daylight should influence the result.
  4. Open Generative Algorithm Settings.

Set the Zone-stage inputs in this order

  1. Canvas settings
  2. Site
  3. Buildings
  4. Urban Massing

Keep target ranges realistic. Widen the ranges before the first run if you want variety.

Run the generation

  1. Stay on Zone.
  2. Start generation.
  3. Wait for the generation count to finish.
  4. Review Boundary → Massing in the left tree.

Check the result before you keep it

Open Reports → Site and recheck:

  • coverage
  • FAR
  • GBA
  • spacing
  • daylight-related values if daylighting was part of the setup

If the first result is not usable

  • Fix wrong units, boundary, north, or context before you rerun.
  • Widen or tighten target ranges only after the geometry setup is correct.
  • Stop the algorithm before you import or replace geometry.

Use Algorithm settings and Reports panel for field-level lookup.
