How to generate massing
Use this guide when you want a fresh UrbanGrid massing result.
TODO screenshot: show the Zone stage with Generative Algorithm Settings open, with the run controls visible and the current setup highlighted.
Set the scene before you run
- Import the boundary.
- Import the surroundings.
- Set Country, North offset, and daylighting inputs if daylight should influence the result.
- Open Generative Algorithm Settings.
Set the Zone-stage inputs in this order
- Canvas settings
- Site
- Buildings
- Urban Massing
Keep target ranges realistic. Widen the ranges before the first run if you want variety.
Run the generation
- Stay on Zone.
- Start generation.
- Wait for the generation count to finish.
- Review Boundary → Massing in the left tree.
Check the result before you keep it
Open Reports → Site and recheck:
- coverage
- FAR
- GBA
- spacing
- daylight-related values if daylighting was part of the setup
If the first result is not usable
- Fix wrong units, boundary, north, or context before you rerun.
- Widen or tighten target ranges only after the geometry setup is correct.
- Stop the algorithm before you import or replace geometry.
Use Algorithm settings and Reports panel for field-level lookup.
