How to edit UrbanGrid massing
Use this guide when the current massing is close to the result you want and only needs local edits.
TODO screenshot: show a selected massing object with the gizmo active, with the left tree and the Reports panel visible and the local edit highlighted.
Start from an existing massing result
- Stay on Zone.
- Make sure the project already contains massing, whether you drew it manually or generated it.
- Open Boundary → Massing in the left tree.
- Select the massing item you want to adjust.
If you still need to create the first massing shape, use the manual drawing tutorial or run generation first. This guide starts once a massing result already exists.
Choose the right edit tool first
Use the editing tool that matches the scale of the change:
- Brush when you still need to reshape the overall footprint or building heights.
- Pencil when you want small cell-by-cell edits.
- Fill when you want to set or adjust a larger connected area.
- Eraser when you need to remove painted cells.
- Clear when the current brushed result should be reset before repainting.
- Copy Massing when you want to copy massing into a selected informed space workflow.
- Transform gizmo when the form is already close and only needs a local object-level adjustment.
For brush-by-brush behavior, use the Massing Brush Tools reference.
Edit the selected massing
- Press W to activate the gizmo.
- Frame the object clearly in the viewport before you move it.
- Make one adjustment at a time.
- Reframe the scene after each change if needed.
Check the effect immediately
- Open Reports → Site.
- Recheck spacing, coverage, GBA, FAR, and daylight-related values that matter for the decision.
- Turn on a daylighting theme if the edit affects solar exposure.
Use manual edits only where they help
- Use manual edits for local corrections.
- Return to the brush workflow when the overall form is still changing.
- Return to generation when the targets or site setup are the real problem.
For massing context, use Stages and generation and Reports panel.
